Youthful Haughtiness

I used to think myself so smart
Turns out, I was so green
Having lived a short time on this earth
So little had I seen.

Regardless, I did strut and prance
My hour upon the stage
So cocksure of my intellect
Even at a tender age.

Oh yes, I was the know-it-all
Of that, there was no doubt
For in my mind, I knew what life
Was really all about.

But it was youthful haughtiness
The same old song and dance
That made me act so foolishly
When given half a chance.

But thanks to God, my self-deceit
Upset my applecart
The day I finally came to see
That I was not so smart.
